Let me tell you a sad story…
Once there was a girl who was humming a Christmas song in the midst of August, “Chestnuts roasting in an open fire…” She sat on a couch looking
out the window in a stormy afternoon, sipping her coffee. She let every raindrop flood her heart while she stares blankly at the rain recalling her last happiest rainy day, until a lump filled her throat. Unable to hold back, she stood up and walked slowly out to the door.
In an unsolicited invitation, she joined the rain and let the trickles of water dilute her salty tears. She closed her eyes and just stood there, still humming, “Chestnuts roasting in an open fire…”
Now let me tell you a better story…
On the couch were two other girls watching her. The girls who took turns looking after her day in and out, who also cried when she cried, who stroked her hair and wiped her teary face til she fell asleep. Now, one was holding her robe and the other a towel, ready to dry her when she comes back in…
